- COLEACP/PIP informs and welcomes new MEPs in collaboration with other organisations in the agri-foodstuffs sector
COLEACP is an active member of the Food Supply Chain Round Table, where it regularly meets its European counterparts representing commerce and the agri-foodstuffs industry. It is an opportunity to debate and define positions on the subject of regulation and more generally on questions relating to food safety. It is also a chance for PIP to defend the interests of ACP producers.
Within the framework of this network, and following the recent European elections, several partners in the sector wished to jointly demonstrate to the new MEPs their availability and willingness to collaborate on subjects relating to food for European citizens. To kick off these debates and inform the MEPs without delay, an event will be organised on 17 November 2009 by various representatives from the European agri-foodstuffs sector (including COLEACP) in the Parliament buildings in Brussels.
- PIP contributes to EuropeAid Training on Trade and Private Sector Development
On 10th July PIP took part in a training course on the “Effective Design and Management of Trade and Private Sector Development Support”. The course concentrates on improving the effectiveness of EU trade related assistance and private sector development and was provided to EC staff who are dealing with trade related assistance and private sector development in delegations in the Caribbean and Pacific regions. The final day of the 5 day course considered Sanitary and Phytosanitary (SPS) support. Participants received a general outline of SPS issues from Isabelle Rollier of DG SANCO, followed by a presentation from the COLEACP-PIP. The Programme was selected as a case study to illustrate how EC interventions help developing countries to respond to SPS concerns.
